Latino Conservation Week Volunteer Opportunity (Encino)
On Wednesday, September 16th from 8 AM to 10 AM, join us for a special volunteer event at our Sepulveda Garden Compost Hub to celebrate Latino Conservation Week.
Featured activities including compost sifting, soil building, and hands-on demonstrations of composting techniques. Volunteers will help process finished compost and prepare materials for local distribution. Participants will also receive free compost and educational resources to help them implement compost application and other climate-friendly practices in their communities.

8th Annual Beautification Conference (NorthEast LA)

Let's Compost, Pasadena!
LA Compost is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Pasadena Public Works Department to manage eight community compost hubs in neighborhood parks across the City of Pasadena. Each location is an opportunity to drop off your food scraps, volunteer for a work day, and create healthy soils right here at home.
Come see us at Brookside Park (next to the entrance to Kidspace) on 9/19 between 10 AM and 12 PM to learn more about how to get involved! Our team will be on site to answer questions, get you registered for one of eight Compost Hubs, and show you how to drop off your food scraps.
Plus, get a free countertop compost pail, courtesy of the City of Pasadena (while supplies last) and take part in fun educational compost activities with our friends at FoodEd!
No RSVP necessary! All-ages are welcome to attend.
Climate Action Day: Garden Workday with RootdownLA (South LA)
Join LA Compost and Root Down LA on the last Saturday of every month for a hands-on volunteer workday dedicated to caring for the Carver Middle School Community Garden.
Together, we'll tackle important seasonal projects that keep the garden healthy, productive, and thriving. Whether you're an experienced gardener or trying it for the first time, there's a meaningful task for everyone. After a rewarding day of working side by side, we'll gather to enjoy a delicious, veggie-inspired meal made with fresh, wholesome ingredients.

About the event: The service project is a part of the Climate Action Microgrant program, which expands climate service opportunities throughout the state of California. These projects connect state and local climate projects that engage volunteers in their community. All volunteers will join the Climate Action Counts campaign to stay connected on future opportunities to stay engaged in this important work. This opportunity is made possible through partnerships at the state and local level, including: California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Keep California Beautiful, and Garden School Foundation.

4th Annual Musica y Poemas Festival (Highland Park)
Celebrate culture, art, and community in Highland Park!
Presented by the Office of Council District 1, Música y Poemas is a free, family-friendly festival on Figueroa Street that brings local artists, youth activities, and essential community resources.
Event attendees can enjoy live music across two stages, inflatable games, a reptile petting activation, and the Natural History Museum’s Mobile Museum. You’ll also find community partners offering free haircuts, a Primary Care Mobile Clinic, pet resources, and more. About: Our virtual volunteer orientation is an opportunity for new volunteers to learn more about LA Compost volunteer opportunities and know what to expect before their first shift. This is an informational meeting where we discuss compost basics, share volunteering tips, and help you determine which volunteer shift is right for you. Hear directly from our volunteer leads about their experiences and what it’s like to be part of the LA Compost community!
No prior composting experience is needed to join this session. Participation is optional and not required prior to volunteering with us.

Info Session: Community Composting for Green Spaces - Cycle 5
The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) and LA Compost invite community groups, nonprofits, and municipalities to apply for the fifth cycle of the Community Composting for Green Spaces (CCGS) grant program in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Groups interested in starting or expanding a community composting program in Santa Barbara Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties are encouraged to attend our upcoming information session.

Join LA Compost at Community at the Roots at All People’s Garden on June 13th. Come meet our team, learn about reducing your food waste and ways to get involved in community composting in LA!
At this event, All Peoples Community Center invites community members to learn about how to garden in various living spaces, cooking using locally sourced ingredients, and how to engage with existing community assets. We believe it is important that the community is empowered to engage with and advocate for green spaces and understand why connecting to our roots is important to our collective wellbeing.

In this volunteer experience, you'll work alongside our team to apply compost at Cottonwood Urban Farm's orchard and learn how these practices can be used in gardens, farms, and landscapes.
