Community Pumpkin Smash at Cottonwood Urban Farm
Don’t Let Your Pumpkin Haunt the Landfill!
Each year, around 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins in the U.S. are sent to landfills after Halloween, where they release harmful methane gas that contributes to global warming.
Don’t toss your Halloween pumpkins in the trash, bring them to our Pumpkin Smash! Join us for our Annual Pumpkin Smash on November 29th, 2025, from 9 AM - 12 PM at Cottonwood Urban Farm. Smash, chop, or break your pumpkin and add it to our compost piles. You’ll cut down on landfill waste and give your pumpkin the chance to return to the Earth!
What to Expect:
At this event, it is encouraged to BYOP (bring your own pumpkin). However, if you don’t have a pumpkin, you are more than welcome to observe or share a pumpkin with a fellow attendee.
Meet our staff and learn about the incredible work happening at Cottonwood Urban Farm, where thousands of pounds of food scraps are transformed into nutrient-rich compost each month.
Then, it’s time to smash those pumpkins and add them to the compost pile!
Stick around to volunteer (no experience needed) or explore the hub and the beautiful farm.
Can't Make It On November 29th?
We’re also hosting Pumpkin Smashes at four other locations! Check out www.lacompost.org/pumpkinsmash for more details on additional events near you.
