Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each attendee can receive one bag of compost, approximately 7.5 gallons (1 cubic foot), along with one bag of mulch, while supplies last. Compost and mulch is given out on a first-come, first-served basis—so we recommend arriving early!

  • RSVP is strongly recommended as the Community Compost Day LA events are located within large parks and the specific location may be difficult to find. By RSVPing you not only help us plan accordingly, you’ll also receive precise instructions on how to find the event within the park location.

  • You may bring your own containers, bags, buckets, or bins if you'd like to reduce waste and transport your compost or mulch more easily. We’ll have compost pre-bagged for convenience, but bringing your own helps us preserve burlap bags for future use.

  • Absolutely! Community Compost Day LA is an all-ages event with a dedicated kid friendly activity station.

  • No garden? No problem! Compost can be used for potted plants, indoor houseplants, street trees, or community green spaces. You’ll also learn other ways to support soil health, get involved locally, and reduce organic waste, even without a backyard.

  • Language offerings will vary per Community Compost Day LA event. Check the specific page of the Community Compost Day LA event you’re interested in attending for a list of educational offerings and what language they’ll be taught in. Email info@lacompost.org with any questions.
