Don’t Let Your Pumpkin Haunt the Landfill!

Each year, around 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins in the U.S. are sent to landfills after Halloween, where they release harmful methane gas that contributes to global warming.

Don’t toss your Halloween pumpkins in the trash, bring them to our Pumpkin Smash! Join us for our Annual Pumpkin Smash on November 8th, 2025, from 9 AM - 12 PM at S.O.W. Collective Backyard Farm. Smash, chop, or break your pumpkin and add it to our three-bin compost system. You’ll cut down on landfill waste and give your pumpkin the chance to return to the Earth!

What to Expect:

• At this event, it is encouraged to BYOP (bring your own pumpkin). However, if you don’t have a pumpkin, you are more than welcome to observe or share a pumpkin with a fellow attendee.

• Meet the S.O.W Collective Backyard Farm staff and learn about the incredible work happening at the farm, where thousands of pounds of food scraps are transformed into nutrient-rich compost every year.

• Then, it’s time to smash those pumpkins and add them to the three-bin compost system!

• Stick around to volunteer (no experience needed) or explore the hub and the beautiful farm.
