What is compost?

The process of decomposing organic matter. It is also the finished product of decomposed materials. Food scraps become compost or are composted.

Why Community Composting?

Community composting will allow you to be an active steward of local healthy soils. Your drop off of household organic material will be processed by fellow Angelenos onsite (or less than 10 miles away from where you dropped off), and be redistributed as nutrient dense compost that will help local ecosystems thrive.

Our Impact

In 2023, our community diverted 1.8 million lbs of organics from landfill.

Our Programs

  • Educational training, resources, and hands-on experiences equip individual community members to be compost stewards and advocates within their communities.

  • We manage a decentralized network of compost locations that make compost accessible at the community level, catering to the unique needs of the surrounding community.

  • Utilizing larger green spaces across Los Angeles such as urban farms and public parks, our Regional Compost Hubs accept inedible food scraps from mission-aligned businesses and organizations.
